Let’s define “Dieting” According to Wikipedia dieting is; <strong>Dieting</strong> is the practice of ingesting food in a regulated fashion to achieve or maintain a controlled weight. In most cases dieting is used in combination with physical exercise to lose weight in those who are overweight or obese. Now that we what dieting is let also define what dieting isn’t? Dieting as most of us know it a way to lose weight fast and regain that dress size that I had when I was 25 or 35 or when ever. I’ve had people contact me asking if I can make them lose 15-20 for their wedding day in 2 weeks. That is how most people perceive a diet or dieting. And in fact this is 95% of the people I’ve talked to have been on so many diets in their life they can’t even remember which one they were on last or even if they lost weight.</p>
<p>So here are a few GOOD reasons to avoid the dieting cycle.</p>
<ol>
<li>Research has shown that the more you diet yoyo you will continue to gain more weight than you lost on the previous diet. Here why. You start a diet most are restrictive calorie, carbohydrate, fat or some combination of these three. Your body says hay what’s happened I had all this food for energy and storage for a rainy day and now I don’t have enough to survive. People think by reducing or restricting their input of food they will lose weight, and they are correct. Their body is gone into self preservation mode. It sees the restriction as a famine and instead of starting to use the fat your body has saved it start with lean muscle. Because lean muscle is the best fuel for your body and it take less energy to get it ready to consume. So now you start losing weight but its muscle not fat. By the way muscle weighs more than fat so you think you’re losing fat but all you’re really losing is you best way to lose fat, because muscle takes energy to do work but fat doesn’t. Now some time has passed and you’ve lost all the weight you had set out to lose or the even that you needed to lose weight for has passed and return to eating the same amount you were before you started the diet. Now the problem starts. You’re giving your body those 2000 calories or so that you did before the diet and maintained your weight at (whatever it was) now your body needs fewer calories because it has less muscle mass to feed. So guess what it does with the extra, you’re correct it stories it for later. And the cycle will continue over and over and over again.</li>
<li>Now as if you really need another reason, how about this. New research shows that this same dieting cycle also stresses your brain, causing overeating and anxiety. Have you noticed that once you go off the diet your stress is reduced? When this occurs we normally eat comfort foods which helps use to feel better and then the cycle occurs again. This is in fact similar to addiction to drugs. Have you noted how irritable most people become when they are on a diet? Now you know why. It’s not just being hungry and missing eating it is actually an addiction. What is worse is if you go off the diet or cheat for a day or even one meal the symptoms return with more intense anxiety than before. And the cycle continues.</li>

Being interested in weight loss I watched for a period of time. Then returned the next week to see how they were losing fat by the buckets full. Some would lose amount equal to ½ their original body weight in a relatively short period. After watching I thought this was great but later reevaluating my thoughts. My questions to myself where; Is this way of weight lose a good practice? Are they setting a good example for the majority of the overweight population? Can this experiment be recreated in the real world?  Can the average person afford a personal trainer, a dietician and sabbatical from work? Well the answer I got was NO! We see people that are grossly obese going on a show that thousands of people had probably interviewed for. We see the contestants being kicked off because they didn’t lose enough weight. Now I do realize this is a reality show and it’s there to make money for the advertisers by promoting their product or service.</p>
<p>Let’s answer the questions.</p>
<p>Is this a healthy way of losing weight? The answer would have to be yes and no. The yes is, they are under strict nutritional regiments guided by a dietician on staff, a professional trainer guiding them through several hours of exercise per week, a doctor that monitors their vital statistics, move to weight lose camp. That would a great thing having no junk food and a much regimented/structured life. Have no job to go to that is going to get in the way of your schedule of weight loss. Lose weight and lastly get a healthy check at the end if you win. The <span style="text-decoration: underline;">IF</span> for winning is pretty big.</p>
<p>Now let’s look at the no’s. First and foremost most of us don’t have loads of money put some where that we can hire a doctor, dietician, and trainer, go to a weight lose camp, take time off work and not get paid. Lastly and I believe most important spend weeks away from family. Next, if someone does all of those things for you have you truly learned anything. Did you learn how to exercise from home or if you can afford to go to a gym and use their equipment. Have you learned what food to eat or not eat do you know the reason why you shouldn’t eat certain foods. While you were at camp the food was there for you. Have you gone shopping for yourself to purchase your own groceries and if so did you have someone to call or email if you have questions. As for your Doctor if you are overweight, have health issues or just feel you need to be monitored by a doctor then you will still need that.</p>
<p>The bottom line is we need to take responsibility for ourselves. We need to stop blaming someone or something else for our weight. Using excuses like; I have big bones, I have a medical problem, I have bad genes, My parents where heavy, How am I supposed to know what 1 serving looks like? These are but a few reasons/excuse. Realize that you can lose weight and regain your health while living at home.</p>
<p>In conclusion, I recommend you look to someone to give you advice on weight lose. Look for someone that has experience that helps to guide you along. When talking to them ask question like how long have you been helping people lose weight. Feel comfortable with him/her. Once you decide on someone tell them the truth. Take their advice, listen to them. You wouldn’t go to get your car fixed at reputable mechanic then tell him he doesn’t know what he’s talking about! Trust them to tell you the truth even if you don’t like it.  If you don’t understand ask them to explain again and again if necessary. If you’re having a problem with something let them know. I’m not a mind reader and I haven’t met anyone that is. Remember you didn’t the weight over night so don’t expect to lose the weight over night. If you need to purchase a specific product ask questions. Is it all natural, are there any stimulants, is it organic, and is it pesticide and herbicide free? Remember, ask questions. And I tell everyone that I’ve worked with it’s about eh journey not the destination. Life is short, enjoy it. Be healthy.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;"> </span></strong> <strong>What do I need to do to lose this stubborn belly fat</strong>?  This is a question I get asked very frequently and it seems like it’s pretty evenly spread between men and women.  My guess is because most men and women alike think the stomach is very sexy, if you have a flat stomach or six pack abs then it’s all good.  Then I proceed to explain that they must lose weight and shed fat throughout their body and I get this stare of disbelief.  I hear well I heard on the radio, TV or internet all I have to do is this special colon cleanse, possibly do a certain exercise or even where this belt and my answer is “why are you asking if you have the answer”.  <strong>The truth </strong>of the matter is there is no such thing as stubborn belly fat.  It’s fat, plain and simple.  In order for you to <strong>lose weight</strong> or <strong>shed fat </strong>you must change your life style. There is no exercise, colon cleanse or anything that is going to easily remove it short of “the knife”.  There is no such thing as a quick fix or something for nothing.  Remember your mom or dad told you “if it sounds too good to be true it probably is”.  Everything comes with a price.  If you hear someone on the TV, radio or internet saying things like lose that stubborn belly fat by just… and you believe him, well then. Enough said about that.  <strong>Basic physiology</strong>: You eat some food; it goes from your mouth to your stomach to intestines to toilet. There is a lot more to it but that’s the cycle.  As it works its way through, your body digests and absorbs what it wants and needs, from there it goes to the blood to be distributed to the cells, the new stuff in the old stuff out and so on. At no time do your muscles look out and say “wow I have some fat here in my area I think I’ll use it for energy”.  Your circulatory system distributes everything.  When your body has consumed all the food (energy) that you have put in then and only then does it start looking for other sources of food (fat or stored energy).  So then the answer must be less in and more out.  Correct!  <strong>Localized exercise</strong>: What about exercises like sit-ups, crunches and leg lifts?  Yes, they will build muscle under the fat and yes building muscle will consume fat if you have enough muscle and don’t increase your caloric input.  Again, remember localized workout will not remove fat in that area it will only make muscle in that area stronger.  <strong>The solution</strong>: The solution should always be a total all out attack on the problem. <strong>Lose weight</strong>, <strong>shed fat</strong>, get <strong>healthy</strong>, and in some cases even <strong>gain weight</strong>.  <strong>First</strong>, change your life style.  You notice I did not say go on a diet or change your diet.  No, this is a life style change that you’ll be slightly modifying for the rest of your life.  Things like what type of food, how much food, how frequently… You got the idea.  This not a diet! This is a life style.  Change the way you eat; no you’re not going to be hungry or eating dry, bland, tasteless food out of a box. You’re going to be eating real food.  Things like chicken and beef, vegetables pretty much as much as you want, fruits, nuts.  Yes, real delicious food. I also normally start with a body cleanse this helps to jump start the process of weight lose or better yet shed fat. <p>Train hard: If you want to gain you must train hard. Never do the same thing in the same order. Make your body wonder what is happening today. Always change it up more reps one day and less the next. Remember it is possible to over train there must be time for rest. It takes about 36-48 hours for your body to rebuild depending on your level of health and wellness. If at all possible pay for a trainer. You typically get what you pay for.</p>
<p>That leads us to Rest: If you’re working your body hard then it requires rest not just a good night sleep but time for your muscles to repair and rebuild. Think of it this way every time you do strength training you’re making tiny rips in your muscle if they don’t have time to grow additional muscle strands to mend that muscle in between work outs then you’re wasting time. As stated earlier most performance trainers and sport doctors agree on every other day. So work legs one day and upper body the next or whatever works for you.</p>
<p>Lastly Great Nutrition: A number of years ago there was an add on TV. Man walks out with a body suite that showed your bones and muscles and a song sing you “are what you eat” it would show eating good stuff and the body grows. Well nothing has changed you are what you eat. Junk in, junk out! Does this sound familiar? Good in, good out! So, that being said for optimum work out you need great nutrition. Allow me to suggest, minimum 8-10 glasses of water minimum. If you’re a sweater like me you’ll need to drink much more. Clean filtered water. America and more specifically the U.S. is on a precipice of a health crisis as the U.S. accepts obesity and classifies it as a disease.  Only a few hundred years ago it was the most wealthy that where over weight; it was a badge of wealth, but now the most wealthy are thin and realize the consequences that come with obesity and if they are overweight want to lose weight and work at it diligently.  We must change our perspective and realize we either will lose weight or the people that are significantly over weight will lose the battle with diabetes along with a whole gambit of weight related diseases.  No matter how over weight someone may be today they can change, lose weight and start regaining their health.</p>

The drug companies are more than willing to help medical colleges and universities because they know the pay back is for every dollar spent they receive hundred back and besides drugs have their place in helping people to get well.  But when we talk about losing weight, shedding fat most of it falls squarely on your shoulders. It is your responsibility not your doctors to cut back on food, eat more unprocessed food, eat more fruits and vegetable and to exercise more.  You can lose weight, shed fat and maintain a healthy weight when your body is working optimally.<br />
Here are a few tips to lose weight, shed fat and maintain a healthy weight</p>
<p><strong>1.</strong> Look at how your cloths fit not at the scale. Remember you didn’t wake up one morning and found yourself over weight or fat it took time and it’s going to take time to lose weight or shed fat. Life is a journey, enjoy it!</p>
<p><strong>2.</strong> Eating five or six small meals per day will also help to lose weight and shed fat. When you eat your meals don’t us a dinner plate us the next smaller one, it looks like you eating more “there is a diet company that advertises on TV that uses this trick, all their meals look big but it’s really the plate that’s small”. If you eat all day you won’t have the urge to eat so much because you won’t be hungry at your next meal.</p>
<p><strong> </strong></p>
<p><strong>3.</strong> Eliminate (as much as possible) candy, sugar, and soda from your life and for sure diet sodas. If you must have chocolate have dark chocolate and instead sugar use honey or stevia as a replacement. Everything you do will help you shed fat and lose weight.<br />
<strong>4.</strong> No late night snacks, if you absolutely have to have something try having a small handful of almonds..</p>
<p><strong>5.</strong> Avoid diets and micro-wave solutions that guarantee you’ll lose weight, shed fat while you eat all you want and do nothing. Remember what your mom told you “if it sounds too good to be true it probably is”.</p>
<p><strong>6.</strong> Eat more complex carbohydrates (brown long cooking (about 1 hour) rise heavy brown breads with nuts or seeds) and ample quantities of fresh fruits and vegetables (as much greens as you want, well rinsed). Having yogurt, make sure it has living coulters though. This will help with regularity and help to lose weight and shed fat.</p>
<p><strong>7.</strong> Drink plenty of water at a minimum of 8 cups per day. Your morning coffee afternoon soda does not count towards your 8 cups of water. Try herbal teas with honey or stevia if you like it sweet instead of coffee or soda. Stevia has been known keep your blood sugar flat.</p>
